Hello!
We are looking for a responsible, nonsmoking, couple/single person who loves animals and has had experience with farms, and rural settings. We a need a farm and house-sitter to look after our poultry flock, dog, and two cats for about a month, starting October 28th to November 25th or so.
We are happy to have you here a day or two early to show you around and teach you our feeding routines.
We have a year old dog, and two healthy cats, that we keep inside during our travel times. We also have a flock of chickens, ducks, and a goose, that all need feed, egg collecting, and water daily.
The sitter will need to let the birds out in the morning to free range, and then lock the birds into their houses in the evening, collect eggs, and make sure that the birds have food and clean water. Rollo and Archie and Lira, our cats and dog, get fed twice a day, and you will need to clean the cat's litter box once daily.
Taking care of the outside animals involves approximately 25 minutes twice a day. Our 80 acre farm is fairly quiet this time of year, so the level of care is pretty minimal, when compared to the growing season :)
Our farm is on Orcas Island, the largest of the San Juan Islands, an hour ferry ride off the coast of Washington State from Anacortes WA. Orcas is incredibly gorgeous, no matter the time of year. There is a great hiking, and beach combing, as well as wonderful restaurants and shops. Although, in the fall the hours are a bit more restricted then in high season. The community here is very welcoming. We also have wonderful neighbors. Our newly remodeled house, is a mile from the ferry landing. It's about a 15 minute drive into Eastsound, the closest town. It's also very easy to take the Ferry to San Juan Island, to see Friday Harbor. Having your own car would be best.
Our home is warm and, comfortable and easy to live in. Included are all utilities - internet, water, trash, electricity. Our heat source is a great wood stove and we have plenty of wood.
We will be verifying references and would also require a current police check before we engage anyone for this house sit.
